The detention occurred when the 35-year-old official was in a hurry to attend a meeting in the regional government with the participation of the governor. The mayor did not want to voluntarily surrender to law enforcement officers: he barricaded himself in the car, refusing to get out. It came to warning shooting in the air, and the doors to the car had to be opened, breaking the glass. During a search of Bolshakov, according to preliminary information, an amount exceeding a million rubles was found with him – that same bribe.
According to media reports, the bribe and the case are related to the mayor receiving a “kickback” from a construction company during the construction of an object being built as part of a federal national project. Bolshakov is not the only defendant in this case. It is reported that during the same operation, about a dozen intermediaries and assistants were detained, with whom investigative actions are now underway. It is known about several high-ranking employees: this is an adviser to the governor of the Ulyanovsk region Alexei Russkikh, ex-deputy Igor Edel, and his assistant Dmitry Smirnov. According to media reports, Edel allegedly may have questions about the radiology center in Dimitrovgrad.
The leadership of the Ulyanovsk region responded promptly to the detention. So, the governor of the region Alexei Russkikh has already dismissed Bolshakov from his post “due to loss of confidence”, noting his unsatisfactory work as the head of the city. There is no information about the dismissal of the rest of the detainees.
The opinion of the inhabitants of Dimitrovgrad about Bolshakov was divided. Some believe that order has finally come under the head of the city, while others criticize his work, and consider the detention a natural result of his activities.
