The doctor recommended not teaching children to sleep with soft toys

The head of the Center for Genetic Dermatoses of the Research Institute of Childhood, dermatovenerologist Olga Orlova recommended not teaching children to sleep with soft toys, and warned about the danger posed by them.

She noted that a child often carries his favorite toy outside, to the clinic, and often drops it, as a result of which pathogenic microorganisms, which may include dust mites, get on the soft toy.

“Therefore, sleeping in an embrace with a teddy bear can lead to allergic reactions, rhinitis and intestinal disorders,” Orlova said.

According to her, keeping a toy close to a child’s face, including the mouth, can result in the disease of ARVI, molluscum contagiosum virus and pyoderma.

The doctor also urged people to regularly clean, wash and disinfect soft toys. She also recommended buying toys made from natural materials and with short pile, or better yet, without it at all. Orlova also called for careful attention to whether the materials from which the toy is made, including fillers, dyes and decorative parts, meet the standards.

The expert warned against toys with bright, “poisonous” colors. According to her, lead and cadmium, which are harmful to children, can be used as a dye.
