It is impossible to prohibit celebrating St. Valentine’s Day in Russia, Nina Ostanina, head of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children, believes. She noted that young people love this date very much.
“I am against canceling any holidays. Moreover, our youth loves Valentine’s Day so much,” she said.
Ostanina pointed out that Europeans and Americans ban Russian classical literature and music, but do not imitate them. In her opinion, the ban will not solve anything.
She noted that Russia has its own Day of Love, but it cannot be made popular by decree alone. Ostanina said that last year she proposed making this day a day off, but the Ministry of Labor said that this would harm the economy. As a result, she withdrew the bill from consideration, realizing that it was inappropriate.
“Now is not the time to consider the issue of approving a day off. We will finish the special operation, then we will talk about civil holidays, ”Ostanina said.
