State Duma deputy from United Russia Olga Zanko sent an appeal to the Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuichenko with a request to recognize the writer Boris Akunin (Grigory Chkhartishvili) as a foreign agent. According to her, Mr. Akunin “opposes Russia” and participates in the activities of an organization included in the list of foreign agents.
“I believe that Akunin, as a public figure with a clear anti-Russian position, should also be recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent. The writer lives abroad, and for some reason he easily tries to earn money here, including through performances and books, ”Olga Zanko wrote in her Telegram channel.
She drew attention to the fact that the writer “is a member” of the organization “Real Russia” (included in the register of foreign agents), which called for a change in the constitutional order and raised funds for Ukraine.
The deputy learned that Boris Akunin was not recognized as a foreign agent from her subscribers, who showed her posters of performances based on the writer’s works posted in St. Petersburg.
In February 2023 Boris Akunin informedthat the prosecutor’s office is forcing theaters to remove his name from the posters of performances. According to the writer, he was informed about this in one of the theaters, asking whether he would agree to remove the name from the poster or would prefer to completely remove the performance from the repertoire.
