At the end of October, once again the community is divided over a popular foreign holiday called Halloween. Some demand a ban as an element of pro-Western propaganda, others say: hands off popular entertainment.
The State Duma suggested doing something simple – renaming the Halloween holiday “Day of Creepy.” This initiative was made by LDPR deputy Yaroslav Nilov. According to him, the habit of celebrating Halloween in Russia has been instilled since kindergarten, and simply banning the celebration would be wrong. Therefore, the deputy proposed to find a compromise solution. If the name is renamed, Russians will be able to get away from being tied to Western culture and a foreign name, but we will retain the fun that is familiar to many
“Sometimes there is no alternative to a ban,” says Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, in a conversation with MK. – But this is if this or that phenomenon is by its nature so ugly and contrary to any norms of public morality that no makeup can save it. Only complete elimination, topped with acid, sand and concrete for reliability
But it happens differently. Here’s Halloween. In fact, it is a holiday of evil spirits. But in Rus’, didn’t they know how to scare? Didn’t you get creepy? Who in childhood was not aware of the adventures and victims (where would we be without them) of the “black hand”? What about Kashchei, Baba Yaga, Leshy, and other “authorities in the area”? Folklore has never lagged behind; our land was, is and will be richer in talent than others.
– You said that you started celebrating Halloween in kindergarten… How did it happen, who did you dress up as, how and who did you scare?
– I didn’t mark it. But it happened at school,” continues Yaroslav Nilov. – And in my student years I went to this holiday once, but did not dress up. I repeat, maybe it’s easier not to ban Halloween, but to “nationalize” it and consider the issue of citizenship in the usual way? Conventionally – Day of Horror. There is already plenty of it around, we just need to channel it into the official mainstream. And we will live.
The international holiday Halloween is celebrated annually on October 31st. In recent years, Russians have had ambivalent attitudes towards him. Instead, they even proposed introducing a new celebration – a traditional harvest festival. By the way, the Ministry of Education and Science of Yakutia has banned the celebration of Halloween in schools and other educational institutions in the region. And in Tatarstan and Udmurtia they decided to hold a “Pumpkin Rescue”.
