Deputy Milonov proposed giving female mannequins “real proportions”

“We shouldn’t give people wrong ideas about beauty.”
State Duma deputies are concerned that ideal female mannequins form misconceptions about beauty, which pushes many to the surgeon’s knife and depression. In particular, according to deputy Vitaly Milonov, in Russia it is necessary to introduce the use of mannequins, models and advertising that correspond to the real proportions and shapes of the average citizen.
“There is no need to form people’s wrong ideas about beauty,” State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov told MK. – The ideal forms of mannequins and models advertising clothes, in most cases, form incorrect ideas about the norm in women and men.
Most people are not athletes, Apollos or Aphrodites. We are all fairly ordinary people with our own characteristics. Teenagers react especially sharply: they begin to feel complex and nervous. In the most extreme cases, things take on a tragic character: even suicide. And all this is due to imposed beauty standards.
– What measures are you going to take to recommend new standards for mannequins?
– In a number of countries, both Western and Asian, the practice of using “normal” mannequins already exists. I think this could be implemented with the help of amendments to the advertising law – after all, mannequins are also a kind of advertising medium. We can also urge advertisers and manufacturers to meet people halfway and not instill in them inferiority complexes.
