Deputy Lugovoy urged to distribute weapons to people in the border areas

Deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Andrey Lugovoi called for the distribution of weapons to the participants of the territorial defense in the border regions of Russia. According to the parliamentarian, the measure will help prevent the penetration of sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRGs) from Ukraine.

“As for the border territories within the framework of the events that took place in Belgorod, everyone asks the question: where is our therodefence? Is she unarmed or not? Maybe it is worth taking some organizational measures in this direction? Why not distribute weapons to people who are in the border areas? I believe that weapons should be handed over immediately: small arms, grenades, hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers,” Mr. Lugovoi said on the air of the Govorit Moskva radio station.

In addition, the deputy said that he considers it necessary to create an organization like Smersh (counterintelligence structure with broad powers), which operated during the Great Patriotic War. “Of course, with a different name, maybe with a different organizational structure. It seems to me that this is an overdue proposal, which is being discussed more and more,” the parliamentarian said.

May 22 from the territory of Ukraine to the Belgorod region penetrated DRG – the main blow fell on the city of Grayvoron. The Legion “Freedom of Russia” (recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation and banned) and the “Russian Volunteer Corps” (RDC), participating in hostilities on the side of Ukraine, took responsibility for the attack.

In the course of the counter-terrorist operation of the RF Armed Forces, the invading groups were blocked and defeated by air strikes, artillery fire and the actions of state border cover units, reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the evening. During the fighting, Russian fighters destroyed more than 70 attackers, four armored vehicles and five pickup trucks, the military department said.
