Deputy Leonov explained why it is impossible to ban alcohol and tobacco in Russia

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Sergei Leonov believes that Russia does not make sense to ban alcohol and tobacco. People will find other ways, he said in an interview with URA.RU.
Earlier, the Superjob portal conducted a survey on this topic. About half of those polled said they supported a ban on the sale of cigarettes to those born after 2009. A similar ban was previously introduced in New Zealand.
Leonov noted that the introduction of such restrictions requires the support of not half, but the absolute majority of the population.
“It is believed that if people born after 2009 are banned from smoking, they will not try tobacco and there will be no addiction. But the problem is that they will use other ways of smoking, for example, vapes or electronic cigarettes,” the deputy explained.
In his opinion, the idea of such a ban is utopian, although he would support it.
If alcohol is banned, then a lot of counterfeit dangerous products will appear in the country, and mortality from poisoning and cirrhosis of the liver will increase. These issues need to be approached carefully, concluded Leonov.
