In Yakutia, the first deputy minister of health of the region, Roman Savin, was detained, the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Saturday.

Savin is suspected of abuse of power.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2021, the Deputy Minister signed a state contract with a company affiliated with him for the supply of 18 oxygen concentrators necessary to combat the coronavirus.

The total amount of the contract amounted to more than 620 million rubles. At the same time, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the cost of equipment was overstated by 150 million rubles.

A criminal case was initiated under the article “Abuse of official powers by a person holding a public position, which entailed grave consequences.”

Savin could face up to 10 years in prison.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health of Yakutia published an announcement about an inspection in the department, which was launched by law enforcement agencies “for the supply of oxygen stations.”

It was noted that the Ministry of Health provides inspectors with full assistance and provides all documents.

The department also added that all oxygen stations were put into operation and are used to treat patients.
