Deputy Gorelkin: cinemas can get the right to show Western films

Russian State Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin announced the preparation of a bill on compulsory licensing of films for cinemas in his telegram channel.
According to him, a bill is being discussed that will allow Russian cinemas to legally show new foreign films. “This will make it possible not to engage in the semi-legal practice of “pre-session service”,” Gorelkin wrote. Such a practice, “according to indirect signs, is popular with the audience,” the parliamentarian noted.
The bill, as he recalled, was prepared and wanted to be introduced last year, but the draft document was criticized by the representatives of the film industry themselves. According to Gorelkin, experts saw this idea as a risk for online movie theaters. But he is confident that the bill on compulsory licensing will only affect the offline format.
