Personal mobility devices can reach walking speeds
Moscow City Duma deputy Evgeny Zyuganov proposed reducing the permissible power of electric scooters to 100 watts. He made the proposal during a round table “Problems of administering offenses using personal mobility devices” held in the capital’s parliament.
According to the deputy, reducing the rated power of scooters is perhaps the only effective method of reducing the speed of this type of vehicle. The speed of scooters directly depends on the power of their engines. For example, with a power of 350-500 watts, scooters can accelerate to 30-40 km/h. But scooters with a power of 100 watts will move at a speed of 3-5 km/h, that is, like pedestrians. This measure will ensure the safety of both pedestrians and scooter riders themselves, but will make the movement on scooters pointless.
In addition, during the round table it was proposed to create a system of charging stations for scooters in the capital and solve the problem of recycling used batteries of these vehicles. There was also a proposal to provide all scooters with license plates.
