Demand for VR devices in Russia has tripled – Kommersant

At the beginning of 2024 in Russia, the demand for VR devices and spending on the purchase of virtual reality helmets and glasses increased several times, reports the Megamarket marketplace in its study.

Sales of accessories increased by 320% compared to the beginning of 2023, the average bill increased by 30%, 29.8 thousand rubles, as buyers began to choose more expensive and functional device models. In general, Russians spent 12 times more on the purchase of virtual reality helmets and glasses in 2024 than at the beginning of the last year.

“We can assume that such a rapid increase in interest in VR glasses and VR helmets is largely due to the release of new products from Apple to the market,” said Vladimir Viktorov, head of the Megamarket electronics product line. “Their advertising campaign arouses interest in technology among wide audience. People are discovering new possibilities and seeking extraordinary technological experiences.”

Most of all VR devices in Russia are purchased by men aged 28 to 42 years, and women account for less than a third of the audience for such products. The most popular accessories at the beginning of the year were Oculus Quest 2, 3 (cost about 45 thousand rubles), Sony PlayStation VR2 (about 80 thousand rubles) and Pico 4 (about 60 thousand rubles). The leaders in sales of VR gadgets were Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Krasnodar region, Nizhny Novgorod region and the Republic of Tatarstan.
