Such data are provided by the Avito Services service in a recent study of the tutoring services market, which Kommersant got acquainted with. In the educational segment, experts emphasize, now 10% of all specialists in the service sector are working; over the past year, tutors have earned more than 1 trillion rubles. Most often, Russians turn to additional classes to pass exams, learn a foreign language, or change their profession.

Education is one of the most popular segments in the Russian service sector, experts from Avito Services and ORO concluded based on joint market research. Most often, Russians are looking for tutors in school subjects, this direction accounts for 38% of all educational orders. “In May 2023 alone, the demand for teachers in school and university subjects increased by 61% compared to the same period last year,” the study says. Avito Services notes that the largest share of demand among school subjects fell on mathematics (35%) and Russian (21%). Recall that mathematics and Russian are compulsory subjects in the framework of the Unified State Examination. In terms of popularity, they are inferior to biology and computer science (3% each), literature and social science (2% each).

The demand for the services of tutors is growing steadily every year, Georgy Hakobyan, director of the Avito Services vertical, explained to Kommersant. According to him, growth began during the pandemic and in the post-COVID period, when the online format of classes became relevant. On average across the country, for the 2021/22 academic year, the demand for tutoring services increased by 26% compared to the previous academic year, Mr. Hakobyan cites statistics, and by 66% compared to the pre-pandemic academic year. “School teachers and university professors are increasingly choosing online platforms to promote their services and search for students — this allows them to maximize income, build a flexible schedule and promote their services,” notes Georgy Hakobyan. “This is especially true for those who managed to gain a base of students or just starting private practice.

The study of foreign languages ​​- 23% of the educational market – the researchers call the second most popular direction. English, as before, remains in the first position. 81% of requests fall on it, and demand continues to grow. For example, in May of this year, according to the study, they were interested in English 34% more often than in the same period in 2022. The second place was taken by the Chinese language – the demand for it increased by 79%. Nevertheless, in the total mass of orders, this is still only 5%. Chinese, meanwhile, overtook the popularity of German, which previously occupied the second position (3%). “The languages ​​with the most active growth in demand included Korean (+139%), Arabic (+82%) and Chinese (+79%),” added Avito Services.

Closes the top three leaders of educational services vocational training – 13% of orders in the segment. “These are specialized courses in the field of IT, sales, design, management, logistics, accounting,” the Avito Services press service explains. The company is confident that “professional retraining helps to gain new knowledge, move up the career ladder, and also find a job with better conditions and decent wages, or even radically change your profession.” Such statistics, according to experts, is an excellent proof of the growing trend in life-long learning (lifelong learning).

“The average check in the field of education amounted to 4 thousand rubles,” summed up Mr. Hakobyan. “The cost depends on the type of service itself (for example, a course or an individual lesson), on the specifics of the subject being studied and on other factors.” Over the past year, tutors completed about 286 million orders with a total revenue of more than 1 trillion rubles.

The demand for educational services has grown during the pandemic and continues to grow due to the widespread use of online formats, Kommersant was confirmed in the Profi marketplace for services. The head of the Skysmart online school for children and teenagers, Dmitry Abramov, noted that in 2023 the dynamics of reducing the cost of additional lessons with teachers stopped, and the prices for the online format are no longer inferior to those for personal meetings. Moreover, “due to the fall in real incomes of the population, a trend has arisen to combine different formats of education depending on the need,” explains Mr. Abramov. case of small gaps in knowledge, as it is cheaper.”

Profi points out that last spring the demand for the languages ​​of the countries of relocation dropped significantly: in March 2022, 206% more customers than usual wanted to learn Hebrew, 198% more Georgian, and 184% Serbian. A year later, these figures fell by 115%, 93% and 26%, respectively.
