Demand for microchipping and vaccination of pets jumped sharply in Russia

Many dog ​​and cat owners will never leave the country

Moscow clinics note a heavy demand for microchipping of animals. On average, the request has doubled. Of course, this can be connected with the law on the widespread chipping of dogs and cats in the Russian Federation, which is being prepared in the State Duma. But no less demand is observed for vaccination and examination of animals for rabies for export abroad.

– Yes, if earlier we did 15-20 chippings a month, now it’s 60-70, – says Alexey, a veterinarian at a Moscow clinic. – And the contingent, so to speak, has changed. Previously, the most thoroughbred pets, expensive, with a pedigree, were microchipped. Now they carry expensive ones in a different sense. Many have multiple animals. Sanitary and veterinary requirements are different everywhere, you need to carefully look. But usually they require negative titers for rabies, a chip, an international veterinary passport with all marks, a certificate. I would advise you to immediately go to the clinic, where it is indicated that they are preparing for international transportation. Everything is important: the weight of the pet, the design and dimensions of the carrier … There are many pitfalls if you carry it on an airplane.

Alexey claims that the rumor that veterinary clinics are running out of chips is just a rumor. Or that “there are no imported chips” is also nonsense. Firstly, electronic chips are all imported, and secondly, they are standardized. It doesn’t matter if the chip is German, Spanish or Chinese. As long as the 15-digit code is readable, there are no other problems. Another thing is an international veterinary passport and a certificate. Here, certain vaccines, anthelmintics, should really be noted, and everything must strictly comply with the standards of the country. “And now we don’t have European vaccines in the clinic, they’ve run out,” the veterinarian shrugged his hands.

The most uncompromising approach to transporting animals is not at all in the US or Britain, but in Iceland. There, for the import of any “tailed”, including pets, you need permission from the Ministry of Economy and Agriculture of the country. This is in addition to the quarantine that awaits animals upon arrival. The terms are very different – from 2 weeks in Thailand to six months in the same Iceland, Britain, Cyprus. Therefore, probably, it is not vaccinations that need to be obtained from somewhere, and not chipping that becomes the main obstacle to leaving with animals. And there are too many difficulties with the flight, especially when the pet is not alone. Not without reason, sad statistics were recently published: up to 50% of owners said they were ready to part with their pet, “if anything.”

Although, on the other hand, with the beginning of mobilization, specialized offices note a surge in requests for hotel services and overexposures for animals with an indefinite period of validity. The demand for dog walkers and the so-called dog and cat sitters has increased. The latter were a new word in the Russian Federation, often not even included in the price lists – now there is a steady demand for cat and dog nannies. Indeed, often a person lives alone with a pet, and if they are called, there is simply nowhere to put a tailed family member, and there is no one to leave him to. But not everyone has money for visiting staff or a hotel for animals. In addition, you may not have time – according to numerous reports, they can be called up in one day. Then the four-legged friend of the mobilized remains simply on the street …

Another case is when a person or family has many pets, from five and above. Recall that in terms of the number of pets, Russia is one of the first places in the world, 73% of Russians keep animals.

“I’m not going anywhere because of cats,” says Vilena, a 40-year-old programmer from Moscow. – It just so happened that I have 17 of their pick-ups. There is nothing to think about the plane, half of my street neurasthenics simply cannot stand the cage. Well, I can’t stand the execution of 17 certificates, morally and financially. There, only these “titles” for rabies cost 10 thousand rubles for one “tail”. I also don’t really imagine the train, with 17 cats. The car remains. Maybe, at worst, I’ll ram them all and go. But for now, I can definitely say that the animals keep me here. Breaking up with them is unthinkable. I remain in Moscow.
