Defense and Security Assistance Detachment Created in Pskov Region

The Governor of the Pskov Region, Mikhail Vedernikov, signed a decree on the creation of an autonomous non-profit organization in the region called the Defense and Security Assistance Detachment. He received the name “Squad”. According to the governor, the detachment will work in the areas of defense, including civil, public security, protection of the population from emergencies.

“This structure will unite the same municipal teams of caring people that we talked about after the drone attack at the end of May. Each district and city will form its own team, for which an appropriate curriculum will be developed,” said Mr. Vedernikov in a video message published in Telegram. He clarified that the selection of the “primary asset” is currently underway.

In April, the head of the Defense Committee of the State Duma Andrey Kartopolov expressed an opinionthat the local population can be involved in protecting the Russian borders. In the Belgorod and Kursk regions in 2022 began the formation of volunteer people’s squads in order to protect the borders of the country. Kursk voluntary squads in May have crossed on duty around the clock.
