How the trial of the terrorist began
On Wednesday, November 15, the first open hearing of the criminal case of Daria Trepova (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation), accused of committing a terrorist attack in a cafe on Universitetskaya Embankment on April 2, was held in St. Petersburg. Let us remind you that during the explosion of a mined figurine, war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky (real name – Maxim Fomin – Ed.), who was holding a meeting with readers in a drinking establishment, was killed.
Long before the start of the hearing, a huge crowd of people wishing to see the accused had gathered near the entrance to the building of the First Western District Military Court on Kirochnaya Street. A group of people in jackets with patches of the Wagner PMC stood out from the rest. A certain 17-year-old streamer Grisha periodically took selfies with everyone. Also, the wife of the deceased military correspondent came to court wearing a sweatshirt with the inscription “Eternal Vladlen” and a portrait of her husband. Each visitor was carefully searched at the entrance, and things were checked by canine handlers with dogs.
The suspect herself was brought in two hours before the start of the hearing. Silent, concentrated, in a black skirt, jacket and white shirt, without emotion on her face. The girl was put in a glass cage, surrounded by six guards, a bailiff and two riot police. Without saying a word, Trepova gave the documents to the lawyer. After examining each piece of paper, the guard handed the folder over to the defense.
The second defendant, Dmitry Kasintsev, who had been under house arrest throughout, came to court accompanied by a FSIN officer. He was initially charged with failure to report a crime, but later the charge was upgraded to concealment.
It took about an hour to complete all the formalities, including identifying the accused. After this, the court began interviewing the victims and their representatives.
According to one of the victims, Marat Arnis, Trepova, in a conversation with a psychologist, called the day of Tatarsky’s murder “the day of fireworks.” The man believes that this particular remark indicates that the defendant knew what exactly was contained in the figurine. The victim said that the military correspondent urgently asked the girl to sit next to him. Daria didn’t want to, but only on the third attempt did she manage to sit further away.
During the hearing, the prosecution noted that Daria Trepova received 132 thousand rubles in a crypto wallet in preparation for the assassination attempt on the military correspondent. And the explosive device itself was activated remotely, from an Estonian SIM card.
Daria Trepova stated that she only partially admits guilt. According to her, she did not know that the figurine contained explosives. After the hearing, her lawyer Daniil Berman said that his client believed that a listening device had been placed in the figurine. Daria agreed only with the charge under Article 327 of the Criminal Code “Forgery of an identity card, citizen’s passport or other official document.” Dmitry Kasintsev, who sheltered Trepova after the terrorist attack, admitted partial guilt.
At the end of the hearing, a sensation almost occurred – the prosecutor announced that one of the victims of the explosion had died. This information came as a surprise even to the defendants’ lawyers. However, it soon became clear that he died much later than the tragedy in the cafe and his death was in no way connected with the injuries received in the explosion.
