40-year-old Dani Alves, who in the recent past, in addition to the Brazilian national team, played for Barcelona and a number of other leading European clubs, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison plus five years probation in a rape case that occurred in one of nightclubs in Barcelona at the end of 2022. In addition, the football player must pay his victim €150 thousand and must not approach her for nine years.

Case, which has now been sentenced, concerns one of the most famous football players of the last two decades. We are talking about 40-year-old Brazilian defender Dani Alves, who won a total of 42 team trophies, including three Champions Leagues, six Spanish championships and four Spanish Cups with Barcelona, and a championship and a cup with Juventus. Italy, as part of PSG – two championships and a French Cup, as part of Sevilla – the Spanish Cup and two Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Cups, as part of the Brazilian national team – two America’s Cups and the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Alvis’s last club was the Mexican UNAM, which later terminated his contract.

On December 30, 2022, a 23-year-old girl accused Dani Alves of rape. It happened in Barcelona in the toilet of the Sutton nightclub, where the football player was a regular client. A few weeks later, Dani Alves, who continued to rest after the World Cup in Qatar, was arrested.

At first he did not admit his guilt, and later changed his testimony, but until recently he maintained that the relationship with the girl was by mutual consent.

Moreover, the Brazilian’s lawyer, Cristobal Martell, explained such actions by his client as a desire to try to hide infidelity from his second wife, to whom he had been married since 2015 and who, having initially supported her husband, then filed for divorce.

During the proceedings, Alvis was remanded in custody without bail, as law enforcement officers feared that he was planning to leave Spain. At the end of July, the investigation into the case was completed and sent to court. It took place behind closed doors and, in addition to the accused, took into account the testimony of the victim, several witnesses who were with the football player that evening, the director of the Sutton club, and also analyzed data from surveillance cameras. Barcelona prosecutors had sought a nine-year prison sentence for Alvis. As a result of the proceedings, which lasted about a year, he was found guilty and received a sentence of four and a half years in prison, five years of suspended imprisonment and compensation in the amount of €150 thousand, which he must pay to the victim. Alvis still has the opportunity to appeal. As for the victim, she, according to the lawyers, is satisfied with the decision.
