Dallas lost on emotions – Kommersant

Following the Florida Panthers, who won three games in a row against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Vegas Golden Knights were one step away from reaching the Stanley Cup final. Having taken over in two home matches in the semi-final series over the Dallas Stars, he also won a away victory with a score of 4: 0. The anti-hero of the meeting turned out to be the captain of Dallas, Jamie Benn, who was expelled from the site at the very beginning for a flagrant foul, and the Russian forward of Vegas, Ivan Barbashev, who scored three points, was among the heroes.
After the end of this match, of course, the episode at the very beginning turned out to be in the spotlight. The fact is that it was very similar to the key.
Dallas lost the first two games of the series, but lost in overtime, and, in general, they pulled evenly, the kind that leaves a lot of chances for the laggard. It is only necessary in no case to squander them yourself. So, Dallas did everything to help Vegas.
It was at the side, away from the goal, that is, in a situation that, in theory, does not provoke emotions. And they were definitely to the detriment of Dallas, who had already managed to miss. And suddenly his captain Jamie Benn, the personification of experience and composure, hooked the captain of Vegas Mark Stone, and when he fell on the ice, he also hit him with a club somewhere in the neck, as if he wanted to roll it.
Stone survived. But Benn forced his club to play in the minority for five minutes, and he himself received a match-penalty for his amazing in terms of rigidity and senselessness.
Partners, of course, later defended Jamie Benn, talking about a breakdown from tension, about clouding in the head of a hockey player who, in principle, is a gentleman and tries to do without rudeness. But you can’t get away from the feeling that it was the removal of Benn that was the most important moment of this match that promised a hot fight.
In the majority of “Vegas” played, strictly speaking, so-so. Moreover, he himself almost ran into trouble, allowing Ty Dellandrea to escape, – rescued goalkeeper Aidin Hill. But just after this release, Vegas still scored. And the Russian forward of the club, Ivan Barbashev, who scored his fifth goal in the current play-off, distinguished himself with a shot from a distance.
At the same time, Dallas looked clearly discouraged by such a disastrous start. And the injury of the Russian striker Yevgeny Dadonov, of course, did not add power to him.
Soon, another puck flew into the gates of the hosts, and goalkeeper Jake Oettinger, who transmitted the nervousness of his partners, had to go to the bench, giving way to Scott Wedgwood.
However, such measures could not change anything. Vegas is a team that is distinguished by exceptional discipline and density. And she demonstrated these qualities again, having spent two and a half periods in such a regime that excluded any hint of a turning point. “Dallas” puffed up, but “Vegas” did not make tremble. And the guests in the second period scored the fourth goal in the match, in which they had two clear heroes.
One is, of course, Aiden Hill, who kept a clean sheet and saved 34 shots, which is not a small number, even if you consider that the lion’s share of them were from the category that a great goalkeeper is obliged to crack nuts. The second is Ivan Barbashev. It was possibly the forward’s best match in the playoffs. Barbashev acted very rationally, practically without falsehood, and most importantly, productively, playing a prominent role in all decisive moments. With his active participation, Jonathan Marchesseau opened the scoring. Then Barbashev scored himself. And finally, in the second period, Alex Pietrangelo finished off Dallas after the transfer of the hardworking Russian who came to Vegas at the finish of the regular season and fit into the base well.
Surprisingly, after this match, both cup semi-finals smelled of absolute defeat. Vegas was one step away from reaching the final, as was Florida, who also won three games in a row against Carolina.
