Russian figure skaters Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin, who have changed their sports citizenship, and now represent Georgia, are included in the number of participants in the European Championship. This was reported by press service International Skating Union (ISU). The championship will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, from January 8 to 14.
Davis and Smolkina are silver medalists at the 2022 Russian Ice Dance Championship. Diana Davis is the daughter of Russian coach Eteri Tutberidze. Gleb Smolkin is the son of actor Boris Smolkin. In June it became known that in the new season the athletes would represent the Georgian national team. In the first competition under the Georgian flag at the Lake Placid Ice Dance International tournament in Lake Placid, America, the skaters took first place.
In March 2022, the ISU suspended Russian athletes from international competitions under its auspices due to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
