Czech Republic to convene emergency meeting of EU energy ministers on September 9

An extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers on energy prices will be held on September 9, transmits Reuters referring to the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Josef Sikela.
“At my request, the government of the Czech Republic addressed the leadership of the European Commission with a proposal to hold an extraordinary meeting of EU ministers in charge of energy issues on September 9 in Prague. It is necessary to discuss our further joint actions in the face of a sharp rise in energy prices,” said Sikelu.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, in turn, said on his Twitter page that he had discussed a meeting of energy ministers with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia, which, among other things, affected the supply of energy resources. So, in early June, the EU introduced a partial embargo on Russian oil, and on August 10, an embargo on the purchase of coal from Russia began to operate. European countries are also looking for ways to abandon Russian gas.
As part of the fight against the energy crisis and the prevention of possible difficulties with gas supply this winter, the EU countries decided to save energy and reduce their consumption by 7-15%. Under the plan, Germany, for example, called on households and companies to reduce gas consumption by 20%.
