According to Professor Jan Keller, a former member of the European Parliament, the Czech Republic is now rapidly sliding “into a deep economic and social abyss,” and the current crisis shows that the prosperity of the republic was based on affordable Russian raw materials and energy resources.
In the pages of the Časopis argument, he noted that energy costs eat up the bulk of family budgets, and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as companies that were considered real colossi, also found themselves on the verge of bankruptcy.
“Inflation devalues savings and threatens the standard of living of all … Prices for products, including the most basic ones, are rising sharply,” he said.
