The British publishing house Harper Collins, which produces an explanatory dictionary of the English language, has named the lexeme “permacrisis” (permanent crisis) the word of 2022, according to the website of the dictionary.
The word tops the publisher’s annual collection of a dozen words and phrases that reflect the ever-evolving language and concerns of its speakers.
The list was compiled by monitoring the Collins Corpus database of 8 billion words, as well as various media sources, including social networks.
It is clarified that the authors of the Collins English Dictionary interpret this concept as “a long period of instability and precarious situation.”
They explained their choice by the fact that it is “permacrisis” that accurately and concisely conveys how truly terrible the year 2022 was for so many people.
