Customs officer sentenced for fraud in purchasing furniture

The Tushinsky Court of Moscow sentenced the Deputy Head of the Moscow Regional Customs Sergei Voronov, who was accused of attempted fraud.

As MK learned, together with Voronov, former general director of the UKS company Philip Portnyagin and two other accomplices were in the dock. According to investigators, with the assistance of Voronov, a contract was concluded for the purchase of furniture for the customs department with an increase in price by 15 million rubles (3 times higher than the purchase price). The fraud was discovered by employees of the customs anti-corruption department.

As a result, Voronov was sentenced to 2.5 years of suspended imprisonment, Portnyagin – to 4 years of suspended imprisonment, and two more participants in the scam – to 3 years of suspended imprisonment. Everyone was given a probationary period of 3 years (Portnyagin – 4).
