Courts in St. Petersburg arrested 85 people after protests in memory of Navalny

On February 17 and 18, the courts of St. Petersburg brought 103 people to administrative responsibility under the article on organizing, participating in or public calls for mass presence in public places that resulted in a violation of public order (Part 1 of Article 20.2.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). 85 people were arrested, reported the joint press service St. Petersburg courts. According to messages in the Telegram channel of the press service, on February 17, 51 people were brought to administrative responsibility, and on February 18, 52 people.
In Moscow, only the Tverskoy Court named the number of detainees. On the evening of February 16, three people were detained at the Solovetsky Stone. Protests in memory of Alexei Navalny began in Russia on February 16 after the Federal Penitentiary Service reported that the politician died in penal colony No. 3 “Polar Wolf” in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Russians brought flowers and photographs of Alexei Navalny to monuments to victims of political repression.
The FSIN reported that the politician felt ill after a walk and lost consciousness. On February 17, the oppositionist’s mother confirmed his death. The body of Alexei Navalny has not yet been released to relatives. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation explains this by an ongoing investigation.
