The wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte Macron, has failed in a civil lawsuit she filed in Paris against two women who spread rumors about her alleged transgender background online. According to a court document released by Agence France Presse, the lawsuit was dismissed.
Brigitte Macron, her three children and brother filed a lawsuit in February 2022. The first lady of France was outraged by the appearance of a video on YouTube, which claimed that she was previously a man named Jean-Michel Tronier (Tronnier is the maiden name of Brigitte Macron) and underwent a sex change operation.
The plaintiffs demanded compensation for the violation of their privacy rights, but the court annulled their claim, considering that the facts set forth in it could be qualified as public slander.
Although the civil suit was dismissed, Brigitte Macron may still win the case, as she also filed a criminal suit specifically for “public defamation”. The trial in this case is ongoing.
