The New York Supreme Court has dismissed former US President Donald Trump’s $100 million lawsuit against the New York Times. In its decision, the court indicated that the ex-head of state should reimburse all costs associated with the consideration of this case.
The lawsuit, filed in September 2021, alleges that the newspaper persuaded Mary Trump, the former president’s niece, to steal the tapes from her lawyer’s office and give them to the newspaper’s reporters. At the same time, Mary Trump had a signed confidentiality agreement.
Judge Robert Reed ruled that Trump’s accusations were unfounded, since journalists have the right to carry out their professional activities, collecting legal and ordinary information, without fear of civil liability. This is provided for by the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
Thus, the lawsuit against the New York Times was dismissed, and Trump was ordered to reimburse all legal costs associated with this case.
