Cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov told what will happen if you cry in space. His story appeared on the social network of the Roscosmos state corporation.

On August 26, 2023, he launched from the ISS as part of the crew of the SpaceX mission on the American private reusable spacecraft Crew Dragon of Elon Musk. Thus, Konstantin became the third Russian cosmonaut to fly on Musk’s spacecraft as part of the cross-flight program between Roscosmos and NASA. Together with Borisov, Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub are currently on space watch on the Russian segment of the station.
Konstantin Borisov, for whom this flight is the first in his career, actively maintains his blog, shares photographs of the Earth from space with readers, and also answers questions. One of the questions was asked about tears: “What happens if you cry in space?”
The astronaut immediately replied:
– Tears will not flow down the face as on Earth under the influence of gravity – they will accumulate in the eye area. It will be a little unusual; you will want to brush them off, wash them, or blot them with something. Otherwise, there will be quite a lot of liquid, and nothing will be visible, as if you opened your eyes under water. Accordingly, a crying person in space will often rub his eyes in order to see something.”
The executive director of Roscosmos, Sergei Krikalev, told an MK correspondent about a similar effect of water clinging to the body in zero gravity. According to him, astronauts, including himself, experienced this themselves when they took water treatments in the shower.
