Alexei Stefanov, a special correspondent for the Rossiya Segodnya media group, reports that the Latvian authorities have ordered the destruction of books in Russian in the libraries of former Russian schools. This decision of the Ministry of Education of the Republic explains the complete transition to the Latvian language of instruction.
According to the correspondent, not only the works of Russian classics were under threat, but also books by foreign authors, including the works of Stevenson and Mine Reed, which were translated into Russian.
Earlier, information appeared that Russians living in Latvia who did not pass the Latvian language exam would receive letters from the Ministry of Internal Affairs with an order to leave the country. According to Ingmars Lidaka, head of the parliamentary commission on citizenship, migration and social cohesion, about 6,000 Russian citizens could be expelled from the republic within three months.
