The “pirola” variant of the coronavirus will continue to spread in Russia, said Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor. In her opinion, this strain of the virus is unlikely to become prevalent in the country.
“We have isolated cases so far; the virus has not yet become widespread. The current situation suggests that it will spread, but most likely will not become prevalent,” she explained in an interview with the RBC channel.
According to Ms. Popova, the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia has been growing for the sixth week. 30% of all cases of virus infection are recorded in the Moscow region and St. Petersburg.
“The growth is seasonal, nothing unusual is happening yet. From the first weeks of October we saw a second wave (of coronavirus.— “Ъ”), much higher than the September rise. Now the virus is gaining strength,” emphasized the head of Rospotrebnadzor.
November 8 Anna Popova statedthat a new wave of COVID-19 cases has begun in the country. In Russia identified 10 cases of infection with the pyrola strain, three of them in Moscow. Gamaleya Center in October stated about the loss of protection against coronavirus by the Sputnik V vaccine. A new version of the drug is being developed; it could enter civilian circulation by March 2024.
