The State Duma proposes to allow conscripts to conclude a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense for service. This is stated in the State Duma amendments to the draft law on changing the draft age, they have already been recommended for adoption by the Duma Defense Committee.
Contracts for conscripts with the Ministry of Defense will be concluded for a period of one year. The document also emphasizes that conscripts will be able to conclude contracts with the Ministry of Defense only during the period of mobilization, under martial law and in wartime. In addition, conscripts will also have the opportunity to conclude a contract with the military department “in the event of armed conflicts, when conducting counter-terrorist operations and when using the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation outside the country.”
The same bill in the Russian Federation proposes to expand the boundaries of the military age. According to the amendments, from January 1, 2024, the age of conscription for military service will be from 18 to 30 years – the State Duma clarified that there will be no transitional period for raising the upper limit against the background of the “military-political situation.”
