Composer, former editor of Vedomosti and critic Pyotr Pospelov died at the age of 61. The magazine reports “Music Academy”.
“The flourishing of new cultural journalism in Russia is associated with the name of Pyotr Glebovich — his articles and reviews at the turn of the 1990s–2000s became an example of a living word about music for contemporaries and the next generation of critics,” the obituary says.
The cause of Pospelov’s death is not known. Music critic Sergei Bulanov in his telegram channel noted that Pospelov’s death was unexpected, no one was ready to write an obituary.
Pospelov headed the departments of culture in the newspapers Kommersant, Russian Telegraph, Izvestia and Vedomosti. He was also one of the first researchers of American minimalism in Russia. In recent years, he worked as the editor-in-chief of the Composer publishing house and was engaged in his own musical compositions. This year, he won the Golden Mask award in the Best Composer’s Work nomination.
