Communist Party to nominate Zyuganov’s grandson for mayor of Moscow

According to the statement of the first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, State Duma deputy Yuri Afonin, Leonid Zyuganov, the grandson of the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov, was recommended as a candidate for the election of the mayor of Moscow from the party.
Leonid Zyuganov – member of the bureau of the Moscow city committee, chairman of the commission on science and industry of the Moscow City Duma. He already has experience in the city duma for two convocations and, as Afonin noted, is well acquainted with Moscow’s problems and has internal party support. According to him, Leonid Zyuganov is “a young, bright and promising candidate who has enough authority and experience for such a campaign.”
Elections of the mayor of Moscow will be held in September on the Single Voting Day. Currently, this position is held by Sergei Sobyanin, who was approved by the Moscow City Duma on the proposal of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in 2010 and was re-elected to this position twice, and in 2018 received 70% of the vote.
