Commander of the Black Sea Fleet Sokolov was awarded the rank of admiral

The commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Viktor Sokolov, received the military rank of admiral. The decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He published on the official portal of legal information.
The same decree awarded the title of admiral to Vladimir Kasatonov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.
Viktor Sokolov was appointed to the position of Acting Commander of the Black Sea Fleet in August 2022. Prior to that, since 2020, Mr. Sokolov led the Admiral Kuznetsov Naval Academy.
Since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the command posts of the Black Sea Fleet have come under attack more frequently. Mr. Sokolov in mid-May saidthat the fleet has increased the protection of bases due to the threat of attacks by Ukrainian surface and underwater drones.
