The commander of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District, Major General Ivan Popov, said that Ukrainian troops on Thursday night tried to break through the defenses in order to then go to the sea.
The grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that participated in the attempted offensive in the Zaporozhye direction included the most combat-ready units, one of which was the 47th mechanized brigade, which is part of the strategic reserve of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to a comment by General Popov, who published the Telegram channel of the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to him, special forces, reconnaissance, artillery and aviation played an important role in the defense. In addition, the highest density of minefields in the defense of the RF Armed Forces made it possible to stop all four columns of Ukrainian troops.
“We have hard work ahead of us, everything is just beginning. Therefore, we will prepare, we will follow, we will watch and we will fulfill the combat mission assigned to the army,” the general added.
