Column by Evgenia Milova about social events of the week

The past week has shown how gratefully secular society accepts events with signs of normality. Indeed, everything was as in the best years: a series of events, including a dinner for the Still Art Foundation, opened after the renovation of Olga Sviblova’s MAMM; a fashion show of items from new collections took place at TSUM; The Blueprint honored talented youth at the Metropol; talented youth represented by Yulia Posh from Antiglyants gave a presentation of her jewelry collection for the Alina Issa Jewelery brand; The Association of Galleries opened new names and sold well-deserved names at the Catalog fair. Everything was as if there was no rhetoric about the fact that those involved and organizers of social events should react sensitively to the news agenda and, if they were to have fun, then without losing their seriousness, so that in no case could anyone be suspected of enjoying what was happening.

When Olga Sviblova closed the museum, and this happened in September 2022, people whispered that this renovation would probably become eternal and, at best, would end only when everything was over. Mrs. Sviblova, however, stated that it would take three months to do everything. The truth turned out to be somewhere in the middle. Last June, Mrs. Sviblova celebrated her anniversary under the unspoken motto: “I still need to finish this renovation!” — the program included a charity art auction, which helped a lot. Now Mrs. Sviblova never tires of repeating that she is ready to defend her doctorate in paint and varnish coatings, polymer flooring and other disciplines that were previously distant from her. “The museum doesn’t seem to have changed in appearance, but only Marina Loshak can understand what it means to tear down the roof in the midst of dense urban development,” she said at the Still Art Foundation dinner, which was held at the museum a few days before the official opening. It should be noted that Mrs. Sviblova opened the museum like an experienced seductress – slowly and in parts. That is, the guests of the Karisalovs did not receive access to all the already mounted exhibitions. Only to “Masterpieces of World Photography and Fashion” from the collection of their Still Art Foundation, which just turned five years old. Many guests of the evening returned at the end of the week to finally see Erik Bulatov, Rodchenko and everyone else. The official opening was very crowded, so a special event for patrons is planned for this week so that they can thoroughly explore the renovated museum and exhibitions. “Today it is difficult to imagine that Newton or Avedon, who have come many times before, will come to us. But thanks to the unique and amazing collection of Elena and Mikhail Karisalov, we have the opportunity to see their work. In special times, art is especially needed,” Mrs. Sviblova greeted the guests of the foundation. There were Alexander Dyukov, Mikhail Shvydkoy, Andrey Malakhov, Katarina Konks, Inna Bazhenova, Olga Slutsker, Elena and Konstantin Remchukov, Shalva Breus, Margarita Pushkina, Alexandra Lekomtseva, Vasily Tsereteli, Polina Bondareva, Anastasia Karneeva and other guests who are no strangers to art.

Still Art celebrated its fifth anniversary elegantly in form, but with obvious elements of luxury in content, and I’m not even talking about Mr. Shvydkoy. The guests were treated to a dance performance “Behind The Flash” about the relationship between master and muse and Chateau Margaux Premiere Grand Cru Classe 2017: this impressed Mr. Malakhov so much that he even raised a toast directly to the wine. Mr. Karisalov spoke more vividly about the relationship between the author and the muse than the show, proudly talking about his wife’s achievements over the years of the foundation’s work. Still Art gave its previous secular salvo in December 2021 – on the eve of Mrs. Karisalova’s birthday, the foundation opened an exhibition at the Hermitage, and even then it was noticeable: love in this family is capable of moving the Sun and other stars.
