Chkalov’s relatives evaluate the criminal case against the pilot’s great-granddaughter: “I must answer”

More than two months after the scandalous interview with Daria Bogdanova, the great-granddaughter of the legendary pilot Valery Chkalov, where she spoke about the possible dropping of a nuclear bomb on Moscow to end the military conflict in Ukraine, a criminal case was opened against the 35-year-old woman. However, the remaining descendants of Valery Pavlovich remain in Russia. How will what happens affect them?
We called the grandson of the legendary pilot, Valery Igorevich Chkalov, to find out his opinion on the fact of initiating a criminal case against his cousin’s niece.
The video was watched by specialists from the Forensic Science Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They heard in Bogdanova’s words signs of justification for terrorism. A criminal case was initiated on April 11 under the second part of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Daria Bogdanova faces up to seven years in prison. She has been living in Belgium for a long time, and it is very doubtful that she will return in the near future. So she is unlikely to face imprisonment directly.
“What happened with the criminal case was quite expected for us,” says the pilot’s grandson and Bogdanova’s cousin. “As a matter of fact, it was immediately clear that such statements are not in vain. Of course, Dasha had to realize that she had hit, first of all, her family, her mother and grandmother, and as an adult, understand that she would have to answer for what was said.
-Have you talked to her?
“I haven’t seen her for fifteen years.” But I can assume that what she stated, her opinion is due to the influence of her husband, who is of Ukrainian origin. And this is not her point of view and not her thoughts. But this, of course, does not make it any easier for us.
— Has the initiation of this criminal case affected you in any way? Still, in our country even the son is not responsible for his father, but here there are much more distant relatives.
“Be that as it may, we remain one family.” And, of course, it was painful to hear this.
– What exactly? Her interview or news about the initiation of a criminal case?
— Just the latter was quite expected. We understood that this would happen, and the only question was when. From the interview itself, of course, at first we were simply in shock. But we agree that since there is a law, and the person himself does not think with his head about what he says, then he must be responsible for his words. It couldn’t have been any other way. It is very unpleasant for us that Chkalov’s name is mentioned in such a context. Especially in the year of his 120th anniversary. Perhaps Daria was deliberately provoked, perhaps some kind of similar reaction was expected from her, but at the same time you need to think about what you are saying.
— Especially considering that her mother and grandmother still live in that same Moscow.
— Unfortunately, everything is natural. She said she had to answer for this. If I had the opportunity, I, of course, would tell her husband everything that I think about him and even more… I am sure that this is his influence.
– In any case, Daria is now beyond the capabilities of Russian justice. Do you think she could be convicted in absentia?
— I’m afraid that she may eventually lose, among other things, her Russian citizenship.
— According to the Constitution, if a person was born Russian, it is impossible to deprive him of citizenship given by birth. You can go to jail, but you can’t deprive of your passport. At least for now.
“Then I don’t know.” But I want to repeat it again. We categorically do not support her statement. But we don’t give up on it. She is still part of the family.
As MK found out, there are actually a lot of oddities in this interview. For example, it was taken several months before it became known. Is it a coincidence that the scandalous conversation came into public space just on the eve of the 120th anniversary of Chkalov’s birth? Or someone might need to discredit the legendary name?
One can only assume that this is somehow connected with the scandal surrounding Valery Chkalov’s dacha in the elite Serebryany Bor. Moreover, Daria is the direct heir of her grandmother, the youngest daughter of Valery Chkalov, the last of his living children.
