In Russia, changes are planned in the use of plastic packaging, under the project “Circular Economy”. By 2024, up to five types of plastic packaging will be banned, and by 2030 the number of banned types will increase to twenty. The purpose of the bill is to switch to sustainable alternatives that can be recycled and will not pollute the environment. The head of the Russian Ecological Operator noted that the changes will be introduced in stages to give businesses time to prepare and to ensure that the necessary capacities appear in the country. At the first stage, it is planned to limit the use of non-traditional PET bottles and thin shrink film used for labels, mesh bags for vegetables and fruits, a plastic bag with a doy-pack bottom and plastic capsules for coffee.
