Ukrainian aviation is one of the priority tasks of the Russian air defense (AD). Because of the air defense of the Ukrainian Air Force, they have to fly so low that they can even knock down trees. The journalist reported CNN Sam Kiley in his material.
He also spoke about how he was part of one of the Ukrainian aviation brigades.
“Ukrainian helicopter pilots have to fly so low that being on board one of them is like riding on pebbles sliding on the water,” the journalist writes.
Kylie, citing one of the brigade commanders, said that Ukrainian pilots mainly use the Mi-8 helicopter, which makes about three sorties a day. In a conversation with a Ukrainian military observer, CNN learned that he flew so low that he even cut a tree.
Initially, the Mi-8 were transport helicopters, but the situation changed and the Armed Forces of Ukraine installed missiles on them. However, unlike Soviet attack helicopters, Ukrainian Mi-8s do not have armor to protect their pilots.
