Climatologists have predicted catastrophic heat during the 2024 Olympics

During the Paris Olympics, due to take place from July 26 to August 11 this year, there is a high risk of catastrophic heat. Scientists from the Laboratory of Climate Science and Environment in France warned of such a scenario. They shared their conclusions in articlepublished in the journal npj Climate and Atmocultural Science.

In the publication, the researchers analyzed the likelihood of a two-week heat wave that would surpass the record heat wave in Paris in 2003. Scientists indicate that the height of the seasonal temperature cycle in the French capital will take place at the same time as the Olympic Games. This may be accompanied by a severe heat wave, which will have a serious impact on the environment and may negatively affect human health.

Given ongoing global warming and current climate change scenarios, the model used by scientists showed that the 2003 temperature record could be exceeded by more than 4°C (degrees Celsius) in Ile de Frnasse by 2050. Accordingly, the likelihood of a record-breaking heat wave during the Paris Olympics, which will surpass anything previously observed, is one chance in a hundred, which, according to French scientists, can be called a relatively high probability.
