“Clean Games”: 15.6 thousand Russian environmental volunteers took part in cleaning green areas

The results of the “Eurasian Cleanliness Cup” in Russia have been summed up: team competitions in collecting and sorting garbage in parks, forests and coastal areas brought together 15.6 thousand volunteers who collected 220 tons of garbage. About half of the waste is sent for recycling. The championship took place from September 16 to 24, 2023.

Let us note that the “Eurasian Cup of Cleanliness: Russia” is part of the international tournament – the “Eurasian Cup of Cleanliness”, which was held in the CIS countries using grant funds from the Presidential Grants Fund.

This season in Russia during the Cup, 140 games were held in 88 settlements – this became a record. The largest number of people came to clean up in Vologda: more than 2,000 residents of the city and region played simultaneously on 20 sites.

“Our mission is to unite people. Therefore, it is important for us to organize All-Russian championships on an ongoing basis, and for this, grants alone are not enough. Thanks to Sber, which supports the championships at the federal level for the third time in a row, we are breaking records. This partnership is an important milestone not only for us, but also for the country’s environmental volunteer community as a whole. Thanks to this support, more volunteers will be able to take care of those territories that are dear to both themselves and the local community,” said project founder Dmitry Ioffe.

During the Clean Games, participants compete in collecting and sorting waste and win prizes. The event involves from several dozen to several hundred people. They are divided into teams and within an hour they collect many times more garbage than at a regular cleanup day.

“I hope that 88 settlements is not the last eco-marathon record. I am also glad that we managed to turn the event into a real city holiday. The games are held in a festival format – with presenters, music, and a picnic. Participants use a mobile application that turns cleaning into an interactive quest. This season, Sber’s eco-volunteers, united in 126 teams, also helped clean up recreation areas in dozens of Russian regions from garbage. And in Zelenogorsk, Ivanovo, Perm and Omsk, our bank’s volunteer teams took first place, collecting the largest amount of garbage,” said Tatyana Zavyalova, senior vice president for ESG at Sberbank.

In Moscow, Perm, Khabarovsk, Omsk, Orel, Ivanovo and other cities of the cleanliness marathon, eco-quizzes about responsible use and separate waste collection, master classes on painting shoppers from recycled materials, as well as educational activities for young participants were held.

According to the bank’s press service, in addition to the “Clean Games”, about 4 thousand volunteer events are taking place in Russia this fall, which are combined into a series of eco-activities called “Time to Care”, for example: tree planting, eco-lessons, master classes and other “green” activities. activity. The list of events also includes the opening of the “Source of the Angara” eco-trail in Irkutsk.

In addition to the general partner, the Cleanliness Cup in Russia was supported by the Movement of the First association, the Lenta hypermarket chain, and information support was provided by the Union of Eco-Volunteer Organizations.
