An attempt to bring a souvenir back from vacation can result in unpleasant consequences, up to the imposition of a fine or criminal prosecution, lawyer Alexander Baiborodin said in an interview with Sputnik radio.
The expert noted that in many countries there are restrictions on the export of goods, in particular products made from plant and animal materials. According to him, many travelers are aware of the penalties for exporting corals from Egypt, but few people know that similar rules apply in Turkey.
The lawyer stressed that the export of products made of crocodile skin, ivory and antiques is prohibited, this requires a preliminary declaration. Alexander Baiborodin also warned about possible problems when importing marijuana-based souvenirs into Russia. He emphasized that even products that seem ordinary, such as shampoos, oils and creams, may contain prohibited ingredients.
Alexander Baiborodin also noted that the purchase of medicines abroad requires special care. He warns against the possibility of acquiring drugs containing prohibited substances in Russia, which can lead to criminal liability.
