Chinese scientists have developed a nanomaterial that can hit the spike protein of various variants of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, including Delta and Omicron. This is reported by China Daily. They also stressed that the new development is capable of destroying the virus.
An ultra-thin, two-dimensional composite copper, indium, phosphorus, and sulfur (CIPS) nanosheet could be a new tool to combat SARS-CoV-2, according to Chinese research.
It is noted that the initial tests of the new development were carried out on mice. As a result, it became known that the nanomaterial can block the penetration of the virus into cells, as well as effectively relieve pneumonia in rodents, which was caused by a variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
It is reported that the nanomaterial was produced jointly by scientists from the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, the Institute of High Energy Physics at the CAS, and the Kunming Institute of Zoology.
