Chinese Foreign Ministry protests after G7 statements about China

The Chinese Foreign Ministry protested after a joint statement by the G7 (G7) criticizing Beijing. About it says in a statement by department spokesman Wang Wenbin.

“China expresses strong dissatisfaction and strong opposition to this and has made strong representations to Japan, the summit organizer and others,” the spokesman said.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the actions of the G7 “do not inspire any international confidence.” Wang noted that the G7 members insist on “manipulating China-related issues, vilifying and attacking China, and grossly interfering in the country’s internal affairs.”

“The G7 talks about ‘moving towards peace, stability and prosperity’, but in reality it hinders international peace, damages regional stability and stifles the development of other countries,” the report said.

In his statement, Wang also clarified that “Taiwan is China’s Taiwan.” According to him, the solution of the “Taiwan issue” should be decided by the Chinese people. He said the same about “the affairs of Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.”

The PRC authorities protested following the results of the last G7 summit in May 2022. At that time, the G7 countries also expressed concern about the human rights situation in China, in particular, in the Xinjiang Uygur and Tibet Autonomous Regions. In addition, they expressed dissatisfaction with the situation in Hong Kong.

Zhao Lijian, then Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman declaredthat attempts by the G7 countries to slander China, accusing it of violating human rights, will not succeed.

On May 19, a three-day summit of the heads of the G7 countries opened in Hiroshima (Japan). The summit focused on the issue of further support for Ukraine, as well as issues of economic security and climate protection.

May 17, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova statedthat the G7 has “completely lost its credibility”. According to Zakharova, now the G7 members are engaged in “drawing” dividing lines in international relations, trying to impose their will on others and coordinating pressure on “objectionable countries.”
