China re-elected Xi Jinping for a third term

Xi Jinping was re-elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee) and confirmed as Chairman of the Military Council of the CPC Central Committee, both for a third term, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The decision was made following the results of the first plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. A day earlier, the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China, which traditionally takes place every five years, ended in Beijing, at which a new composition of the CPC Central Committee and the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection was elected.
Also elected a new composition of the Politburo and the Standing Committee of the Politburo, which included the most influential party officials in China.
Xi Jinping is 69 years old. During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2022, he positively assessed relations with Russia, stressed that the political and strategic mutual trust between Moscow and Beijing continues to grow, and the parties support efforts to protect their fundamental interests.
