China protests to Japan over congratulations to Taiwanese election winner Lai Qingde
The Chinese Embassy in Japan published a message in which it said that the Chinese authorities express “strong protest” in connection with the congratulations of the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Yoko Kamikawa, who sent congratulations to the winner of the elections of Taiwanese President Lai Qingde.
The embassy stated that “the Taiwan issue is China’s internal affair” and the Chinese government adheres to the “one China” principle and views other approaches as separatism.
The Chinese authorities demanded that Japan not interfere with stability in the Taiwan Strait and in Sino-Japanese relations.
