China launched the world’s first methane-powered ZQ-2 rocket on July 12
The first flight on Earth of a launch vehicle with an oxygen-methane device Zhuque-2 (ZQ-2, Zhuque-2) was carried out safely. This is written by the private space organization LandSpace.
ZQ-2 was launched on July 12 at 09:00 in Beijing (04:00 Moscow time) from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome in northern China.
In the fall of 2022, the PRC successfully tested a new TQ-15A liquid-fuel oxygen-methane engine. The launch on July 12 was already the second attempt to implement this method in the field. The first launch of a similar rocket took place in December, but it was unsuccessful due to a broken second stage engine.
