The head of Rospotrebnadzor and the chief sanitary doctor of the country, Anna Popova, does not share the expectations that the coronavirus pandemic will soon end. So she commented on the message of the World Health Organization that the pandemic is coming to an end.

“I understand the expectations of all of us that everything will end and tomorrow will be fine, but, unfortunately, I do not share this position. <...> If we talk about covid, then the week-to-week difference is minus 16%, the decrease here is significant. At the same time, we see that growth is now being recorded in India,” Ms. Popova said. NTV.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor noted that the number of cases of coronavirus “is at its peak (the emergence of a new sub-variant of COVID-19.— “b”), unfortunately, does not decrease. According to her, this is due, among other things, to an increase in the contagiousness of each new variant of the coronavirus. Over the past three years, about 600 variants of COVID-19 have been detected in Russia.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in mid-March declaredthat his organization will be able to declare the end of the COVID-19 pandemic as early as this year. In his opinion, the world is now in a better position “than ever during a pandemic.”
