Telegram channel Shot reports about the hospitalization in Moscow of the Chief Rabbi of the Russian Federation Berel Lazar. According to the channel, he was injured while performing a religious ritual on Saturday. Confirmation of the information soon appeared in a number of other publications.
It is alleged that the rabbi danced with the Torah during the celebration of Simchat Torah in the synagogue in Maryina Roshcha. Thus, the chairman of the Public Council of the Federation of Jewish Communities, Boruch Gorin, said that at that moment “terrible news began to arrive from Israel,” and the rabbi said that it was necessary to “follow the custom <...> more than always – putting pain and hope, faith into the dance.”
“At half past two in the morning he fell,” added Gorin. “I don’t know if he slipped or collided with one of the dancers.”
It is reported that the rabbi’s health is not currently in danger.
