Chief designer of the orbital station of the Russian Federation: $ 150 billion has already been allocated for the creation and operation of the ISS

The creation of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) will require less money than the creation and operation of the International Space Station (ISS). This was announced by Deputy General Designer of the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation (part of Roskosmos), Chief Designer of ROS Vladimir Kozhevnikov. According to him, more than $150 billion has already been spent on the ISS.

“In any case, these costs (for the creation of ROS. – Kommersant) are much less than for the creation and operation of the ISS – at the moment, according to expert estimates, they have already exceeded $150 billion,” Mr. Kozhevnikov said. TASS.

According to the chief designer of ROS, it is too early to talk about the amount that will be required to create the station. Now there is a preliminary design. About 30 enterprises are involved in this work. It is expected that when the project enters the stage of developing working documentation, manufacturing and testing, the number of enterprises may approach 100. As Mr. Kozhevnikov noted, there have never been projects of such scale and complexity in the history of modern Russian cosmonautics.

The scientific and energy module is planned to be launched in 2027. Four more modules will be sent into orbit in 2028-2030. According to Mr. Kozhevnikov, the station will be practically “eternal”. The project provides for the possibility of replacing spent modules. The protection of the ROS will not differ significantly from that of the ISS. The modules will be equipped with anti-meteor screens. The station, like the ISS, will be able to maneuver to avoid space debris.

Head of Roscosmos Yury Borisov declaredthat the state corporation is rapidly working on the creation of a Russian orbital station. He noted that Russia continues to work regularly on the ISS until a decision is made to withdraw from the project.
