Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko announced the creation of the “Commonwealth” football league, which united ten clubs from the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The championship is scheduled for March 2024.
At the plenary session of the forum “Russia is a Sports Power,” Dmitry Chernyshenko presented the results of work on integrating the regions annexed to Russia into the country’s system of physical culture and sports. According to him, the total amount of financing for the integration project is 3.2 billion rubles.
“By the end of the year, about 50 different facilities will be created and restored, 150 physical education and sports institutions will be equipped with equipment. This year, 750 trainers and specialists have already improved their qualifications according to Russian standards. The “Commonwealth” football league was created, uniting 10 clubs from new entities,” he noted (quoted by TASS).
On June 20, the State Duma, in the second and third readings, adopted a bill aimed at integrating the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the system of physical culture and sports in Russia. The transition period is defined until January 1, 2026.
The bill proposed to regulate the creation and accreditation of regional sports federations, recognition of sports titles, sports categories, qualification categories of sports judges and coaches, previously awarded in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine.
Last week, the Olympic Councils of the DPR and LPR, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, were included in the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). After this, the International Olympic Committee decided to suspend the ROC indefinitely.
